Grade 6 Math Ms. Goldberg

Syllabus

Hello 6th grade math students and families!

My name is Ms. Goldberg and I am so excited to be here at James Martin Middle school working with the wonderful staff and students. I am originally from Chicago and went to school at the University of Wisconsin.

I have incredibly high expectations for every student in my class and I will not tolerate anything but every child’s best. My goal is to prepare my students to be successful in my class and throughout their education career. Students will be pushed outside their comfort zone as we explore critical thinking, mathematical concepts, and what it means to be a contributing global citizen. I will not hesitate contacting parents/ guardians and I hope no one will hesitate to contact me. We are all here to support students as they become leaders in the classroom and our community. I look forward to an incredible year!

Notes:

We will be using Interactive notebooks in our classroom this year! All notebooks will be left in the classroom and will not be allowed home until one week prior to the test.  Notebooks are expected to be neat, organized, and up to date.

Absent:

When you return from an absence you need to check the hanging folders labeled with the days you were gone. You are granted a makeup day for everyday absent, so if you are gone for 5 days you have 5 days to complete the work. ALL WORK MUST BE TURNED IN.

Homework:

Homework assignments are given to reinforce the lessons that are taught in class.  There will be homework Monday- Thursday but not Friday! Nightly homework is collected and graded for completeness. In order to get a perfect grade, I expect to see an attempt of all problems, complete sentences, and full work shown.

Grading Policy:

I use the point system of grading.  Every assignment I give is worth a certain point value. There will be:

  • Tests:

  • Quizzes:

  • Do Nows

  • Notes

  • Homework

  • Classwork/Projects

  • Participation

Students who score below a 70% on tests or quizzes will be required to complete a retake and can earn back up to an 80%.

Extra Help:

If you are ever struggling with a concept we are covering in class, please see me for extra help.  I am available most days after school, before school, and/or during lunch for extra assistance.

Extra Credit:

There will be extra credit opportunities offered throughout the year! Every student will have plenty of chances to give their grades a boost.

Bathroom:

Students are NOT able to go to the bathroom in the first 45 minutes and the last 15 minutes of every block, per JMMS rules. An agenda is needed to go if the bathroom is being used in the time remaining.
